A note from the trenches

Our darling little girl is in some sort of transition. To what, I am not sure, but this weekend has been more challenging that what we are used to. It is almost 12:30 a.m., and I am going to debrief for a minute here and give a rundown of today before heading to bed.

Before church, she had nursed 3 times and had one major screaming fit which stopped just in time to make it to the service. She slept through church (just barely -- esp. when Uncle Ty had the congregation clapping loudly for a couple of his youth group kids). A nice elderly lady behind us commented on how well behaved and happy she is and aren't we obviously great parents. (If only she had followed us home....)

Basically, Ella was happiest when she was sleeping, and she has been having trouble settling into a nap. She is getting really sensitive to noise and startles easily. She had several messy diapers and more wet ones, made three attempts (2 successful) to pee all over the changing table, went through 2 1/2 outfits, had one bottle (while Mommy took a 3-hour nap!), slept in the bassinet, napped in the crib, slept on about 4 different people, hung out in her bouncy seat, nursed so many times I can barely count them, had about 3 inconsolable crying jags, smiled, cooed and almost laughed, probably spent about 15 minutes total staring at her mobile, met 7 family members, took one bath, went for a walk, listened to 2 full CD's while trying to calm down for the night and finally used one new pacifier. She is wiped out, the poor little thing and I hope my parents have an easier day with her tomorrow while I am at work.

The measure of the day.... my t-shirt. It is covered in spit-up, milk, and tears from a Mommy who is so sad that her baby is growing up so fast.
