Ella the Worm

Ella had her 18 month checkup yesterday. All was good until we rounded the corner of the building in the parking lot and she realized where we were. She stopped walking and said, "No!" She hasn't been there in three months and she recognized the back of the building.

Once we got into the examination room, she was a wild woman. Crying, clinging to me... the nurse had to guess at her weight because she kept lunging off of the scales. She calmed once the nurse left, but once poor Dr. Shah came into the room, she was a mess again. He is so kind and gentle with her... yet she fights him worst of all. I don't get it. He doesn't give shots or do anything "mean". The two of us could barely hold her down for the brief exam and I am pretty sure he never got a clear look at her ears, eyes or throat. She was like a super-strong worm, wriggling every which direction with the occasional leg flying up to kick or an arm coming out to grab the instruments being used to examine her. Scott's mom popped in a couple of times to offer Elmo and Dora stickers, a pinwheel, kind words, but all was lost on my panicked little one.

As we left and approached the elevator, Ella said, "Mmmm-hmmm, okay. Down." And down we went to safety.

it is funny to read that....not funny for you, but that is all the same stuff Brielle has done at the doctors office since she turned 9mos.....it does get better...we had our pre-op for her tubes appointment on tuesday and she actually (first time ever) smiled at the doctor!

Kim,
Oh, thank goodness! She has always been scared there, but this is a new level of freaking out. I feel so bad for her.
